I have an update on DPS Officer Jeremy Barr seriously injured by a drunk, wrong way driver on Interstate 17 on August 22, 2015. Several Choir Boys, Choir Boy supporters, and wives including Bill “Fish” Fisher, Jay Jacobs, Randy “Gunner” Newman, Chuck and Sheryl Fullington, Bill “Breezy” Hoffman, Pat Murphy, Rick and Janice Loomis, and I met with Jeremy and Kelli Barr at Grand Canyon Harley-Davidson, Mayer, AZ, today at 10:30 AM, and presented him with a check for $1,000. Jeremy and Kelli were very appreciative of our donation. Several members of the Mayer Fire Department also attended. It was very clear to us that these fire fighters were very close friends with Jeremy and worked very closely with him.
Jeremy told us he is in a lot of pain from the six vertebrae he injured in his neck and back in the crash. He has not returned to work and still requires extensive rehabilitation. Jeremy told us this was the sixth wrong-way driver he has intercepted. Three of the six have resulted in wrecks. When Jeremy returns to work, he reports to the state gang unit as a detective, a job he has always wanted. We also learned that Jeremy has worked 14 years for DPS and was a Phoenix police officer for two years prior to moving to DPS.
I want to thank Fish for arranging today’s presentation, all the Choir Boys, wives, and supporters who attended (despite the terrible weather), and all of you who support our Arizona law enforcement community every day and every way! I am very proud to be a Choir Boy and to be a part of such a great organization!
